The Advanced Microscopy and Analytical Core (AMAC) is a premier research core facility, proudly managed by the LSU Office of Research & Economic Development (ORED) and situated within the LSU Chemistry and Materials Building. We host state-of-the-art equipment for Transmission and Scanning Electron Microscopy and Microanalysis, Light and Fluorescence Microscopy, X-ray ยต-CT, X-ray Spectroscopy, and comprehensive sample preparation. Our facility is powered by an experienced group of dedicated and professional research specialists.

AMAC provides essential material characterization, image acquisition, and elemental analysis to resolve complex challenges across a wide range of scientific and engineering disciplines, including Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Bioengineering, Agriculture, Food Sciences, Geology, and Environmental Sciences.
Our mission is to provide accessible, state-of-the-art instrumentation, expert technical support, and comprehensive training to academic researchers, empowering them to tackle complex scientific challenges. In addition, as a core research facility, we support industry partners by providing specialized analytical services, technical expertise, and collaborative solutions to advance their R&D, optimize processes, ensure quality control, and investigate failures at the root cause.

Internal users
An internal user is any researcher directly affiliated with LSU and possessing a PAWS ID. Learn more about becoming an AMAC internal user by contacting us during the open house or visiting our website.
External users
An external user is any researcher (academic or industrial) who does not have an LSU PAWS ID. To become an AMAC external user, please contact the facility director at dcao2@lsu.edu for assistance.
